Next up in the Sinchi & Friends series are Kiara Scuro. The dj duo are making waves with their monthly radio show and gaining quite a following. Certainly one of our artists to watch for 2019. Get to know them better via the interview below and listen in to the mix which features forthcoming / new bits on Cocktail d’Amore, Notte Brigante, Slow Motion and Slam City Jams amongst others.

Introducing

1) Who are you?

We are two pals, Rosie Ama and Nadia and we host a monthly radio show on Balamii Radio in South East London.

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?

We’ve been lucky enough to play at some amazing parties over the last year. Tancploshadka in St Petersburg and Radiant Love in Berlin were very special. Being part of the first series of Red Bull and Dimensions Get Down Early parties was also a real privilege. We had Legowelt warm up for us and got to hear him play the most mad set.

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?

We’ve got a few shows here in the UK and Berlin coming up then one in Helsinki we’re pretty excited about. It’s always a buzz to visit new places and we feel very lucky we’ve been getting more chances to do so lately. We’ve got some sick guests locked in for our upcoming radio shows and a few festivals to look forward to over summer.

Rosie: Rhythm Kings – A La Recherche Du Temps Perdue.

Nadia: Roots FM (In The Box Mix) – The Source Experience.

5) What is your favourite track of the last 12 months?

Rosie: So many good releases over the last year. Some favourites are Anatolian Weapons – ‘Rahim’, Sharif Laffrey – ‘And Dance’ and Breaka’s ‘Puffer Jackets’ on Desert Sound Colony’s Holding Hands. Oh and special mentions to the man behind that label for ‘Lose My Rhythm’. My most rinsed song of 2018.

Nadia: Andre VII, JAAW – Ultrasonic.

6) What is the last record you bought?

Rosie: This early 90s Belgian record by Cold Sensation called Liquid Empire.

7) Who or what are your biggest musical influences?

Rosie: Actually a lot of individuals in my immediate circles. I’m lucky to have a lot of talented friends doing exciting things which is super inspiring. Shouts to my Pellerinos, Aaron L, Andy Lemay, MLE, Minou, anu, Sean OD, Will Lister and Harry James, plus tons more!

Nadia: Probably my brother because I grew up watching him spend most of his time playing guitar and making music. It became a big part of my life from a young age.

8) Do you have a ritual before you start playing or straight after?

A couple of gin and tonics and a minute long hug.

9) Tell us about 3 DJ’s / Producer’s we may not know but should be looking out for?

239EF, the duo of Diet Clinic and C.A.R who have a show on NTS. We’ve had them on our show a couple of times, they are wicked!

Alex T. Leeds G who is a fountain of knowledge and a wizard behind the decks. Check his Rinse show to see for yourself.

Mondowski. Great producer and DJ who has had solid releases on Ombra International and Relish. Something on the way for SC&P this year too, I can’t wait to hear it.

10) What is your favourite and or Venue / Festival to play at and why?

Rosie: I like The Waiting Room here in London. A bit bias as that’s where I put my own night on but I like that it’s small and no frills. Great sound, nice crowd and bookings are always on point.

Nadia: I agree with Rosie, have a lot of fun when we play The Waiting Room. I really enjoyed Tancploshadka as a venue too, the dance floor surrounds the DJ booth.

OPINION 

11) Best advice for anyone coming into the scene, either as a Producer, DJ or Promoter?

Embrace every opportunity you’re given and remember to enjoy it. And don’t be too over critical of yourself – advice we still need to remind ourselves of at times!

12) Do you think there is inequality  in dance music, whether it is gender, sexuality or race? If yes, what do think can be done?

Lately there is definitely more awareness than there used to be when it comes to having more balance on line ups, but it’s nowhere near where it should be. There’s a lot of passionate people, friends included, who are working hard to drive discussion and change. It’s really important to give support and opportunities to others where you can, especially if you have the platform to do so.

QUICKFIRE 

Favourite out of genre music?

Rosie: Can’t say no to a bit of grime.

Nadia: I still listen to a few Indie bands, they fill me with nostalgia.

Favourite film score?

Rosie: Gabriel Yared – Betty et Zorg. From one of my favourite films, Betty Blue. I love the whole soundtrack but this one is particularly beautiful… The sax and harmonica whisk you away.

Nadia: Not as sophisticated an answer as Rosie’s but I remember playing American Honey’s soundtrack a lot after watching it.

Guilty Pleasure?

Rosie: Abba… Not sure if that’s guilty though.

Nadia: Ariana Grande

One piece of music you can’t stand?

Rosie: I try not to massively turn my nose up at genres, but I can’t see myself willingly at an EDM gig anytime soon.

Nadia: Those tinny tracks you hear on the likes of radio 1 that have no distinction from one another tend to grate on me. Normally catch them playing in an Uber, and so kindly ask if they can switch to Magic FM instead for the real gems.

Favourite way to unwind?

Rosie: Watch an unhealthy amount of trashy TV and eat kimchi ramen.

Nadia: Bath and candles followed by a snack.

What makes you smile?

Rosie: Sleep.

Nadia: Anything involving feta. Oh, and my cat Jasmine.
